Philip Enticknap is a widely published lifetime career photographer based in Hampshire UK. Leaving school in 1960 aged 15 he worked as a trainee photo technician for a Kodak subsidiary company in his then home town of Guildford Surrey and studied photography at Guildford School of Art. He opened his first studio in the town in 1970 shooting wedding and portrait photography and freelance work for The Surrey Advertiser newspaper.

It was around this time too whilst on holiday in Switzerland that Philip met with the owner of a leading London stock agency of the time Spectrum Colour Library. This chance meeting paved the way to Philip’s future career as a travel and stock photographer. Spectrum commissioned him for a number of assignments around the Mediterranean and the USA.

As a travel photographer during the1980’s & 90’s he worked on many assignments for leading tour operators including Thompson Holidays (TUI) First Choice, Airtours (My Travel) First Choice Holidays and Saga. He was a main contributing photographer for the early Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness guidebooks as well as assignments for AA Publishing, Harper Collins and Michelin. Titles included London, Florence & Tuscany, Crete, Alsace, Mexico, Venice, Rome, Paris, and particularly Malta which became a specialist subject working on assignments for the Air Malta inflight magazine.

From the experience gained from these assignments and an understanding of travel client’s requirements he then in 1992 founded The Travel Library a specialist stock agency servicing the travel publishing industry. Representing over 200 photographers worldwide. The agency became widely known for its high standard of image content. The advent of digital photography and vast amount of stock images available on line resulted in the disruption of the stock photography industry. In order to remain competitive and facilitate the substantial investment to do so The Travel Library was acquired in 2011 by the London & USA photo agency Avonlon Red. Philip remained as a consultant with the agency maintaining relationships with the agencies photographers and developing new image content.

Now retired from full time practice he continues his photography at his own pace wherever life takes him. His work is regularly featured in calendars and for local magazine covers. All of the photos on this website are available to purchase as prints or downloads for commercial use.
